My Journey with a Passion for Nursing: First in the Faculty of Health Sciences

Graduation Speech by Dilan Bilbay

I am proud and excited to be the valedictorian of Hasan Kalyoncu University Faculty of Health Sciences and the second runner-up of the University. In our education life, which we started four years ago, we have completed intensive teaching, laboratory and clinical practice stages in order to protect and improve the health of man, which is the most special and most important asset of man, and to provide the attentive care he needs when he is sick. Our education, blended with human values, basic medical sciences and nursing care, has placed a professional responsibility on our shoulders that we will carry for a lifetime. I believe that we will strive to fulfil this responsibility in the best way possible. During our education life, we experienced a pandemic process, the effects of which we have felt intensely since March 2020, and an earthquake disaster that deeply affected our country. In this process, thanks to the decisions and measures taken by the management of our university, our dean’s office and our department, we managed to complete our education life in the most efficient way. The pandemic process and the earthquake once again revealed the importance of nursing and health-related professions. With this awareness and sense of responsibility, we will try to be the best clinicians, academicians, health managers in the nursing profession by developing our profession.

Today, we have come to the end of this university journey that we started 4 years ago. We are in the joy of finishing these years in a beautiful and productive way, no matter how arduous they are. I wish us all a successful working life, realising that our real journey begins in the following period.

I would like to sincerely thank our Rector Prof. Dr. Tükay Dereli and all the Rectorate staff, our Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Kezban Bayramlar and all the Dean’s staff who supported us in both our academic and personal development during our university life, our department head Prof. Dr. Ayla Yava, who generously shared her knowledge and experience about the nursing profession with us, guided us and always felt that they were always with us. On behalf of myself and my fellow graduates, I would like to sincerely thank our esteemed professors in the Department of Nursing, especially Prof. Dr. Ayla Yava. I would also like to thank my family, friends and colleagues for their support throughout my education.

I am grateful to God for giving me the privilege to practice the profession of nursing, which provides the opportunity to touch the depths of human life and has an undeniable impact on health. I firmly believe that we will fulfil this honourable profession properly. Finally, I congratulate all my colleagues and fellow graduates on their graduation and wish them continued success.
